FA Cup Final : Manchester City 0-1 Wigan

FA Cup 2013 : Manchester City 0-1 Wigan

Manchester City suffered a surprising loss to minnow Wigan in the 2013 FA Cup Final.

Wigan Athletic’s FA Cup hero, Ben Watson, scored the only and winning goal just a week after returning from breaking a leg six months ago.

Watson came on as an 81st-minute substitute and 10 minutes later rose to head Shaun Maloney’s corner into the top of Joe Hart’s net.

The victory cost Man City boss, Roberto Mancini his job.

Watson said he was idistraught after the broken leg he suffered in a challenge with Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling in November – and he had feared he would miss the rest of this season.

“When you break your leg, you always wonder whether you are ever going to play again. It was a long six months but I worked hard and was around some good people. They helped get me through those six months and this is a dream come true.

“When we got to the final that was always my aim, can I get fit for the final? I did that, I worked hard. It definitely makes it sweeter. Breaking your leg to scoring the winner in an FA Cup final. It’s crazy. I hope I never come down from this high.”

FA CUP FINAL 2013 Tickets 11 May 2013 Wembley Stadium London, UK

FA Cup Final 2013

The FA has confirmed that the FA Cup 2013 Final match will kick off at 5.15 pm on May 11th. The start time is not convenient for fans of the two northern clubs, with the last train from London to Manchester leaving at 9 pm and the final service to Wigan going at 8.31 pm.

This will be the second time the oldest cup in the world will be played in the evening, after Chelsea’s win over Liverpool last year.

After the clash, fans will have just a short time to get from Wembley Stadium, which is notoriously congested after matches, to London Euston station.

There will be little time for a post-match pint at Wembley. On a day that has been cleared of Premier League games, other than Aston Villa v Chelsea which is taking place at 12.45 pm, the match could easily have been scheduled for an earlier time.

The Wigan fans suggested that a 3 pm match start would give them enough time to catch their trains and get home – even if the game went into extra time and penalties.

“It seems the FA are more interested in what the television companies want than the logistics of supporters getting to and from their final,” said the Wigan Supporters Club.“It’s not just us, it affects Manchester City as well.”

“They are only 18 miles away and we will be using the same roads and, if it was possible, train lines. It was a nightmare for the semi-final.”
